About Opera Browser

E-mail Print PDF
With 12-15 million desktop users, more than 10 million Opera Mini users, 40 million phones shipped with the Opera Mobile web browser, and millions more other devices (such as the Nindento Wii browser). Founded in 1995, the Opera browser is known for its speed (See browser speed comparison) and security. Opera is also known as the browser who invented the precursor to tabbed browsing and was the first major browser to pioneer tabbed browsing. The Opera browser comes loaded with hundreds of features and tools, and still manages to be the smallest browser installation size (just 4.6 MB) (well that was some time ago, it has taken up some weight now) compared with Internet Explorer and Firefox. The Opera desktop browser is a free download. Source: OperaWatch

Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for Windows computers. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools.

With their active and growing online community help is easy to find, and here are tutorials , and plugins available.

Paint image and photo editing software

It has been compared to other digital photo editing software packages such as Adobe® Photoshop®, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Microsoft Photo Editor, and The GIMP .

The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality. The source code is available under the terms of the MIT License .

OpenOffice

E-mail Print PDF

OpenOffice Suite
Office programs must be the most used programs together with internet browsers in any home office.
Since the release of the 2.x version I use OpenOffice to avoid the high cost of the commercial office suites. And I learned that OO is just a brilliant alternative office program. Little sidenote
you can save a document in OO with the built-in module save as.. to PDF with just one click.
During the first week online of OpenOffice 3 were already 3 million downloads recorded, with around 80% windows users upgrading or trying OpenOffice.

Use OpenOffice.org
The look and feel is very similar to MS Office so the learning is not too hard.
The OpenOffice team prepared a presentation (OpenOffice 2), check it here.

On october 30. there is a big update of my Ubuntu Linux installation due and right after that I will upgrade to OpenOffice 3 as well.
